Millions of people dread getting the bill in a café or restaurant, and not simply because of the rising cost of eating out. It's because they don't feel confident that they have the numbers skills to work out if it's right, or what their share is.
4 out of 5 UK adults have low numeracy skills - below that of a grade 4 GCSE. A further 1 in 6 adults struggle with reading and 1 in 5 children are struggling to read well by the age of 11.
Those who can read and add up do well. Those who never had the chance to learn in a safe, supportive environment fall further and further behind.
We reach out to those people - and throw them a lifeline.
The Supporting You Education and Learning Lifeline helps to find and fund the right digital devices and tools people now need to learn - and trains individuals to use them. From young adults who can't learn in a classroom, to someone who's just been made redundant and needs to get better skills.
Everybody deserves the chance to learn on their own terms, in their own time and with an approach that treats them as adults.
